20 months update

Now at 20 months, still nothing really new to report. Same story as at 19, still seeing very good, and still dropping some lubricating drop. Winter is coming here now, generally with drier air, will be interesting to compare my drop frequency this winter compared to a year ago, expect it to be lower. More on this in my 21-24 months reports.

  1. Hey! Thanks for this blog. I´m seriously thinking of undergoing your same treatment, TransPRK with the Amaris Schwind excimer laser.

I´m mainly concerned about the dry eye symptoms and whether this can be permanent in time. How do you feel about this? Following your blog I see that you still experience dry eye feeling almost 2 years later. Could you give me some more information on this? Is it going better?

  2. I would also say the dry eye Syndrome is the most likely negative outcome. Most people I know who did PRK or LASIK based surgery had dry eyes for 6 months or longer, some worse then others. My symptoms, although prolonged, are quite mild, and now almost gone. My theory of my case is that the duration can be explained by my work, staring at 8 screens 9-12 hours per day. I expect my case to be fully good at around 24 months.

That said, I read a research article about this. You loose 60% of the nerve endings in the top of the eye when you do PRK, and I takes on average 24 months for them to grow back. So worst case scenario is in theory my case. For LASIK this is even worse , up to 5 years.

I would recommend you to do it though, the most likely outcome is dry eyes for 3-6 months only and to see good without help is magic.
